Simon Lam, the New York grinder won the WPT Gardens Festival Main Event at $565,055. His name will be marked on the WPT Champions trophy beside every champion of the World Poker Tour of the past 17 years. This is not all, as he also gets entry at the end of season Tournament of Champions during spring time. Over $50,000 of the 1st place prize amount is inclusive of the cost of a Mercedes-Benz SLC Roadster 2018, the luxury car given away to the winner. There is no denying that it was the highest score in his career and also his first major tournament victory. Lam currently has more than $1.9 million as his lifetime winnings.
Lam was heads-up against one of the world’s renowned high stakes champion Schindler after Nguyen pushed all-in pre-flop which was held up. As a result, the 15 million chip pot made Lam take advantage of 4-1 over, Schindler during the beginning of heads-up play. Although Jake has crossed the $20 million lifetime mark, it is not easy for anyone to tackle such a situation. It only took 10 hands prior to the finishing for Lam when both players began to flop a pair of jacks. However, Lam successfully managed to out-kick Schindler.
The flow of the game was disrupted by Men Nguyen with his impatient behavior which made the floor manager visit his table several times. Nguyen was given a one-round penalty as he made illegal demands that the management had to stop his alcohol access. However, he was a bit sober on Thursday and embarrassed by his behavior. Schindler has played in several high rollers this time, which includes the Super High Roller Bowl, WSOP High Roller $50,000 and many $10,000 WSOP. All in all, Lam did show his playing stunts and achieved victory which was well deserved.
The 2017 World Series of Poker event was a very good one for a lot of players as many of the winners of the different events happened to win the gold bracelet for the very first time in their career.
The 2017 WSOP $3,000 Six-Max No-Limit hold’em Event was won by online poker legend Chris Moorman. He took home $498,682 by virtue of winning the popular event. Chris Moorman is also the World Poker Tour champion and now he has added the WSOP title to his kitty.
Moorman has been a very good performer at the WSOP event so far. He had missed the WSOP win twice in his career so far by narrow margins. He finished second in the $10,000 six-max no-limit hold’em event and also had a runner-up performance at the WSOP Europe main event in 2012. But, the 2017 WSOP event had other plans for Moorman.
He was able to go one step up and claim the gold bracelet and a very good cash prize despite facing tough challenges from Bernardo Dias, Steve Sung, Max Silver and Michael Galliano at the final table. The 31-year-old British native man, who spends most parts of his time in the US, has now earned a total of $5.1 million in his career so far just in live tournaments. He has amassed a total of $14 million playing online poker.
Moorman said that he is experiencing a surreal feeling after winning the event and his first gold bracelet of his career. It is just like winning it real in a live tournament and is a totally different experience than an online game. He says everything happens all alone in an online poker event and there are no players around. But, the feeling is totally different and enjoyable when winning a live event.
There is no better player to win the 2017 WSOP $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Eight-or-Better event than Nathan Gamble.
Since 2003 when Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP main event, there is no player to have fitted the occasion to win an event than Gamble. The 27-year-old Texas player won his first gold bracelet of his career by winning the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Eight-or-Better event number 46.
A total of 840 players entered the fray for this WSOP competition. Gamble came on top of all the players and took home the title and the maximum first place prize of $223,339. Gamble told reporters after winning the event that he was in a state of shock. He said that he used to play the pot-limit Omaha and the pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better since he was 13 or 14 years of age. He had good confidence entering this WSOP main event.
He has so far played in four WSOP Omaha tournaments and had cashed in three of them. He has a good success rate at the Omaha tournaments in the WSOP. This is why he felt really better going into this tournament than any other tournaments that involve the Omaha events.
Gamble took the time to thank his dad and said that he was always supportive of him. He said that he dedicated this win to his father as he is the one who has put together tournaments and does not have the chance of getting a bracelet. This would mean the world to his father.
Gamble entered the final day in the 14th chip position. There were a total of 21 players remaining on the final day. Gamble defeated Marco Johnson to enter into the knockouts. He quickly finished off the three opponents to lay his hands on the title. Adam Hendrix was in the second place with $137,992 prize money and third place went to Ray Henson who took home $96,555.
Scott Montgomery participated in the Montreal WPT event that was held from the end of October to the middle of November.
The game that he played with Daniel Mason was in the news and Montgomery was able to grow his stacks in that game. His wins have been several if you look at his professional poker game career.
Many remember the November Nine events at the final table of the WSOP 2008. Here the young Canadian made news as his pedigree depicted. He had been born into a family that was pro in playing cards. Born in 1981 in Perth, he studied mathematics at Waterloo University. He did not take up poker early in his career, though he had the inclination as well as mathematical skills for the game. He moved to Japan with a teaching assignment after which he started to play online at different money games. At the 2008 tournament he was able to win four cash prize events.
Montgomery started to play from 2006 but he made news when he cashed in at the 2008 WSOP and won fifth place in an LA Poker classic tournament, getting huge wins. There were certain aspects about him as a player that set him aside from others. He bought into events with his own money, unlike others as he already had experienced dealing with sponsors when he had won Ultimate Bet badges at different LA Poker classic games. Being a frugal person, Montgomery states that he plays poker so that he can retire early and he has several long term investments, where he has put most of his prize earnings.
He has been in and out of professional poker games for a while now and many fans often wonder whether they will see him playing seriously for big money and wins in major tournaments.
The MGM National Harbor casino opened in the early part of December in Washington DC which is a property worth 1.4 billion US dollars.

The casino attracted thousands of guests on the opening days itself. Many stated that the floor of the venue reminded them of the ambience of Aria as well as Bellagio. Johnny Grooms is the manager of MGM National Harbor Poker Room.
He stated that this is a poker market that is underserved. The wait lists are as long as 150 sometimes for the cash games of no limit hold’em variants. The action has been great at this venue. About the new card room, he states that they were fortunate to see a large volume of players. Every day since the opening has been akin to having a tournament like applications. The waiting lists were high for several games. The key to keeping up the long wait lists was to stay in contact with the players and help them make the most of the other offerings on the floor.

Brian Rast is a pro at the live poker games as well as online gaming rooms.
There are reports that Brian has issued a comment akin to a challenge of two million dollars to CEO of Las Vegas Sands, Sheldon Adelson. There have been several comments made by Adelson where he has ridiculed the skill elements that exist in poker.
Adelson would probably never accept the challenge put up by Rast and probably his assistants are working hard to keep him from even hearing about it. There have been several talks about the latest Variation on a Theme poker strategy. Adelson however, has belittled this strategy in order to support his own financial ventures. This is not the first time when such a business tycoon has been challenged by a poker player to put money where his mouth is and come over to play a game of poker.
It definitely makes for good drama and gossip among fans and followers. As per the interview where Adelson made his comments, he stated that poker and other gaming forms were only social activities or recreations and cannot be called gambling. Usually kids who are unable to sleep at night would get up and challenge each other to play a game of poker. However, when it comes to categorizing the game as a skill based game, that is simply a way of categorizing it, but it definitely does not require much of strategy as there is often a great deal made out of.
To this comment Rast retorted that he challenges Adelson to a game with 2 million stakes each, even though he himself is not a billionaire. It would be interesting to see what Adelson’s retort would be and how the conversation ends.
